I am exploring different variations of Kinchaku bags and I came up with the idea of these ones, for holding wine bottles.
I think, paired with a bottle of wine, they make a great present and I am in fact doing them for Christmas. The bottom is 10cm of diameter, which is a bit larger than average wine bottles, but I want them to be used again so I made them bigger for holding different kinds of bottles. They can also hold a gel ice pack inside for keeping the wine cold, a function difficult to imagine now in December but this summer I will hopefully be grateful that I thought about it.
They are around 25 / 28 cm tall, which will not cover the full wine bottle up to the top. However, I thought this makes the bottle easier to carry and it is also suitable for smaller bottles, like whisky bottles or beer bottles. It fits well also refillable drinking bottles.
I had these bags on my to-do wish list for a very long time.
In Japanese, they are called Kinchaku ( 巾着 ) and I feel they are one of the more typical thing to sew with Sashiko pattern. The knot's cover is also very pretty and I enjoy a lot looking for the best combination of fabrics, knot's covers and embroidery thread.
These ones have a circular bottom of 15cm diameter, and they are around 20 cm tall. I have a few more models in mind, from bottom holder to knot bag, and I hope to make also same smaller ones soon.
The cord I used is the same used for macrame. it looks good but I noticed it does not stand well the washing machine, it twisted a lot and it loose a bit of shape - only handwhashing for these ones!
I made them mostly as Christmas presents, but I am planning to make more of them. I like how versatile they are: it looks like everyone I talked with has a different idea on how to use them.
